assignments for MA

Phew! Just looked at and organised in module and date order in separate folders (displacement activity again) all the assignments for this term or bimester, or trimester, or something. We have to write a piece of flash fiction, come up with 20 ideas for stories, pick one of them, research it, critique our research, write a working synopsis and monologue, write an analysis of a life story, write a life story while all the time remembering to be self-reflexive about all these efforts. Oh yes, and read at least 100 books. (well, I haven't counted but........) I love reading. I'm not sure how long I'm going to love reading...... Why is it that the idea I have had since about 2006 is still in note and research form? Why does it seem a fantastic, blockbuster of an idea until I actually start to try and make my notes make sense? Why can't I just leave it alone and do something else? Answers on a postcard please.

I MUST REMEMBER THAT I AM TALENTED, THAT I HAVE THE RIGHT KIND OF ENERGY, WIT AND PERSONALITY to do this course. (that is what the course director said so it must be true.)

Why am I doing an MA?

So that I can finish a book, get a book published and therefore get a better paid job, possibly while doing a PhD.

So there.

Hi Alison, my MA was hard work, but my writing definitely benefited from the input. I see you are also a Tango fan. Me too. We have done some workshops with Jenny & Ricardo, who are (I think)often in Edinburgh.
